During the 1990s van Roojen spent less time on public art projects and eventually he could focus completely on his painting. In fact, he continued to work at an intense pace right up to his passing in 2012.
In 2002 he had an exhibition of watercolour paintings in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in 2011 he was featured in a large exhibition celebrating the 75-year existence of the van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven.
