Joost van Roojen made this very early watercolour and ink drawing for Louis Chavignier (1922–1972), a well-known French sculptor who suggested that Van Roojen visit the Cantal region in the Auvergne, France. Subsequently, from 1961 to 1969 the Van Roojen family spent several months each Summer in a rural hamlet in that area.

From the Chavignier estate, this small work found its way to an art gallery in Bordeaux, from whom it was purchased and added to the Van Roojen Collection.
